In 2021, CEO of the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators Cris Massis was appointed as the first-ever public member of the APTA Board of Directors.

The position was created to expand the diversity of voices on the board and bring a more comprehensive perspective to APTA leadership. Now that Massis' term is ending, the Board is looking for its next public member.

PTs, PTAs, or members of APTA are not eligible for the position; however, APTA members can share the search with individuals they think will make a strong addition to the Board.

The public member director joins 15 other APTA member directors and officers in providing leadership to the association and will have the same full voting rights and fiduciary responsibilities as the rest of the board. One key difference: The position is appointed by the Board rather than determined by member election. The one-year term of service begins Jan. 1, 2025.

The full position description and further information about the position is posted on APTA's website. The opportunity to be considered for appointment opened on July 8. Applications must be submitted by Aug. 15. Interested individuals must send a resume and letter of intent to humanresources@apta.org.
