Proposed 2027 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule: What PTs Need to Know, Part 2

The U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services has released the Calendar Year 2027 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule Proposed Rule. In Part 1 of our recap, we covered how the proposed changes to the practice expense methodology would uniquely benefit physical therapists.

In Part 2, we outline CMS' proposed changes to the Medicare Quality Payment Program, which includes both the Merit-based Incentive Payment System and MIPS Value Pathways. For some physical therapists, participation in MIPS or MVPs is mandatory, though many are exempt. Still, these programs offer PTs the opportunity to earn incentive payments, and understanding the proposed changes will help clinicians plan for their participation in the coming years.
