October is National Physical Therapy Month.

Raise Awareness and Celebrate the Profession

Every October, we celebrate National Physical Therapy Month to raise consumer awareness about the many benefits of physical therapy. It's also a great opportunity to appreciate what PTs, PTAs, and students do to transform lives.

This October, APTA will highlight the importance of physical therapy across one’s healthspan. Our theme will focus on the role of physical therapy in optimizing movement and function at any age to support resilience and allow us to enjoy the freedom of movement into our golden years. We will also spotlight prevention, wellness, and enhancing mobility and strength with the help of a PT for work, life, and play.

History

APTA and participating components began to celebrate Physical Therapy Week in the early 1980s. The week was initially observed in conjunction with APTA's annual conference in June and was later moved to October. The week evolved and the first NPTM was celebrated October 1992.
