APTA Breakdown of Proposed FY 2027 SNF and IRF Payment Rules

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services has released its proposed fiscal year 2027 rules for skilled nursing facilities and inpatient rehabilitation facilities that would update payment rates and introduce several noteworthy policy changes, particularly in the IRF setting. The proposals also revisit coding and reporting issues in SNFs following the shift to the Patient-Driven Payment Model.

APTA is reviewing the CMS' proposed rules to ensure physical therapy perspectives are fully understood as the agency considers updates that affect postacute care delivery, documentation requirements, and reimbursement across both settings.
