In 1921, a visionary group of women founded APTA and set our profession on a bold, new course. Their pioneering leadership not only established the association but also helped shape the profession's trajectory. This Women’s History Month, we celebrate their legacy and the countless women whose contributions continue to guide and inspire us today.
APTA's new "Founded by Women" social media toolkit contains graphics and messages, including a dedicated photo frame, to highlight and celebrate women in physical therapy and their enduring contributions.
APTA members can use this toolkit throughout the month of March to recognize the women who have provided inspiration, mentorship, or friendship in their physical therapy journey. Post these graphics on your social channels or share an image or story about an inspiring woman you know using #FoundedbyWomen.
"My journey in women's health has been shaped by the extraordinary mentorship and visionary leadership of those who came before me," says Kendra L. Harrington, PT, DPT, MS, vice president of practice and research at APTA and board-certified clinical specialist in pelvic and women's health physical therapy. "Their commitment not only advanced the field but also laid the foundation for a true specialization within women's health. I've seen how progress is built through collaboration and how we lift one another up. Every step forward reflects the dedication and courage of the leaders who paved the way for all of us."
