The "APTA State of Pelvic Health Physical Therapy" report was developed through a collaboration between APTA and APTA Pelvic Health. This report draws on existing literature as well as findings from a national survey of pelvic health physical therapy providers to provide a snapshot of the field. This report gives APTA members insight into workforce trends, access challenges, care delivery, and opportunities to expand timely, evidence-informed pelvic health care.

Among the key findings:

  • Demand for pelvic health physical therapy is growing as more people seek care for conditions that affect function, quality of life, and overall health across the lifespan.
  • Access remains limited by provider capacity, geographic distribution, referral pathways, reimbursement variability, and administrative burden.
  • Opportunities exist to improve access to pelvic health physical therapist services by strengthening the pelvic health workforce, expanding collaborative care models, better integrating PTAs into workflows, leveraging technology, and supporting policy and payment solutions.
